I love sharing stories that encourage curiosity about animals and nature, and I am available for Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 school visits within around 60 miles of Cambridge.
In a typical visit, I start with a reading of ‘A New Home for Little Fox’, and use the story to spark discussion of the beasts and minibeasts we might find living on our doorsteps. The children are given the opportunity to examine magnifying glasses and other bug hunt paraphernalia. We compare the body-shapes of different animals, and find clues to how they move, what they eat and where they live. In the workshop, we make up a treasure (bug) hunt story and create an artwork of a scene teeming with creatures.
Visits nurture environmental awareness and are compatible with curriculum requirements. Session length depends on age and size of group. I am keen to discuss your school’s requirements beforehand to tailor the visit to individual needs.
