Hi! I’m Janet and I love writing stories, especially cosy bedtime stories. You can see my picture books here. There are seven of them so far, all published by Scholastic. The fantastic illustrators are Rosalind Beardshaw and Sebastien Braun. Check out their websites to see even more of their wonderful books.

Besides writing picture books, I’m also a ghostwriter, which means I help other people write their stories. That’s great fun, and I’ve worked on some magical adventure storylines from  creative teams like the lovely folk at Working Partners Ltd.

I love books, and like most people I have my favourite authors. Here I am at the 2017 Cambridge Literary Festival, beaming with joy at meeting the wonderful Roddy Doyle.

Roddy Doyle is author of The Giggler Treatment and creator of marvellous characters including Billie Jean Fleetwood-Mack. Billie Jean is very close to my heart. I’ve written a whole blogpost about her here.

When I’m not writing or reading, I’m often out pottering in my garden. I tidy it, but not much, because the secret of finding wildlife in your garden is to be a little bit untidy. Since I’m naturally quite a lot untidy and I love wildlife, this suits me very well. Here’s a photo of the bottom of my quite-untidy garden, where the wrens hop about…

I’ve always been fascinated by animals and nature. A very, very long time ago, I studied zoology at university, and I once spent a summer in windswept Orkney counting legions of guillemots on distant cliffs. These days, animals seem to make their way into all my stories.

  3. Most of us have stories but never put pen to paper, or fingers on the keyboard. Well done Janet. You are an inspiration to all us MGS “old girls”!

  4. Hello. Happy new year. Saw this post and had memories of MGS. I now live in Vancouver Canada. Was one of the 1st boys at MGS.

Children’s books are so enjoyed as I now read to grandchildren.

    1. Hi Laurence. I remember you in our class – great to hear from you! If you’ve found the MGS FB page, that’s good for stirring up those old memories too. Congratulations on your grandchildren. I’m so pleased they have their granddad to read to them.
